Pet Urine Odor Removal Tips

Olympia's Meridian Chem-Dry suggests that you call us whenever your carpet suffers a spill or some other stain-causing issue, but we know you don’t always want to wait for expert help. That’s especially true in the case of pet urine. The earlier you deal with pet urine, the better – and that’s true even if you plan to let your friends at Meridian Chem-Dry remove the stain and odor for good.

If your dog urinates on the floor, your first priority will be to act fast. You’ll want to soak up the urine with paper towels or a cotton cloth as quickly as possible. The longer you wait, the more urine is liable to makes its way down into the padding or the subfloor where it will be much more difficult to remove – even for our experts. So dab and keep dabbing until your towel comes up dry.

Next, you’ll want to break down the urine. You can find store-bought products that are relatively effective at breaking down urine; you can also create your own cleaning solution by mixing equal parts water and vinegar. When your solution is ready, you’ll want to test it first; apply your solution to an inconspicuous area to make sure it doesn’t hurt the color of your carpet.

If your cleaner passes the test, it’s time to apply it to your trouble area. You’ll want to make sure that you use enough solution to reach any pet urine, but you don’t want to apply more solution than you have to. That’s tricky, and you’ll need to use your best judgment. Use too little solution, and you’ll leave untreated urine; use too much and you may needlessly spread urine around. After the application, keep dabbing until your towel comes up dry.

If you think that sounds too easy, you may be right. That’s because we don’t always know when or where our pets urinate. You could clean every accident you see within moments, but still leave the majority of pet urine deep within your floor. To track down an elusive odor, or eliminate any untraced accidents, you should call Meridian Chem-Dry. We’re proud to keep Olympia’s homes and carpets looking and smelling fresh and clean.
